Choosing Halloween Books For Kids

Every year in October, I cannot resist sharing Halloween books with my students. I am not sure if it is the cute pumpkins, the magic of scary creatures, or the wonderful story lines but I always get so excited to find new Halloween books for kids in the bookstore or library!

It is hard to know which books to pick to share with your class.

I like to choose the Halloween books for kids by thinking of:

Whether it is spooky, haunted, silly, or full or fright,

Consider the feelings students will be holding tight.

Takeaways From Halloween Picture Books

We love to share picture books with our students. However, they were all written with a variety of audiences in mind. When choosing a Halloween book for kids, it is important to pre-read the book for age appropriate content!

You know the students in your class best, so use your judgement if a topic or picture is too scary or graphic. Also, take your students’ personal beliefs into account while choosing a story to share.

I always want my students to be feeling happy, entertained, and excited for the holiday at the end of the book. I try to be very conscious to not leave them feeling frightened or worried after we enjoy a book together!

Here are some Halloween books that I enjoy reading with my students!
